NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
Special Religious Education options at Hillside Public School
Option 1: Combined Christian SRE (using Anglican Curriculum)
Students ask questions, explore the Bible and discover the Good News of Jesus Christ and what it means to be a Christian in our world today. Lessons are age-appropriate, fun and inclusive provided by trained teachers from local churches.
Research has shown that SRE contributes to students’ wholistic education as it nurtures their spiritual wellbeing. For more information about the Anglican curriculum used in this school visit whysre.com.au
Option 2: Catholic
Students explore the Good News about Jesus. They will learn about God’s love in a safe, fun environment. Trained SRE teachers use authorised lessons that are interactive and age appropriate. The lessons are fun and focus on love, goodness and hope which helps to build resilience and faith.
Option 3: Alternative Meaningful Activities
Students not attending special religious education or special education in ethics will be located in a separate space and will participate in alternative meaningful activities. This could include reading, private study or completing homework.
